Diabetic Recipes: Black Bean Cakes | Submitted By: Donna

These are really delicious, especially when served with sour cream or fruit salad dressing homemade sauce included in this recipe! They are great for Chinese New Year.

It crock pot the most secret of societies. Its history is uncertain, its purpose unclear and its scope unknown. It has no name, holds no formal meetings and its members school cafeteria no cards. Clever. Anthropologists, teaming with an eclectic group of scientists and academicians, have stumbled upon precious few clues in their quest to unmask the centuries old enigma.

Here is what they know so far about the "Secret Society" (SS):

--The SS meets spontaneously, seeming to have no rigid code of pre-ceremonial obligations it must perform.

--The meetings are brief - or long - and, at times, of a moderate duration.

--The meetings are often held in public venues, in the full presence of non-members.

--The members of the SS share an odd dialect that, to the untrained ear, sounds like utter gibberish.

Scientists have begun to invest their energies toward studying the odd dialect, believing it snacks hold the key to the Secret Society's ability to flourish. Ancient texts reveal the original adherents used a complex series of grunts and chortles to disguise their communications. Today, Anthropological Nutritionists believe their trickery may reside in the confusing terminology of weights and measures.

Discussions of "pinches and dashes," and "drops and dollops" are clearly sinister, but their exact meaning has yet to be deciphered. The hasty scrawling of arcane messages, bearing the taunting abbreviations "Tbs., Tsp. and Pt." are especially worrisome. The fact that the women - yes, the SS is composed entirely of women - plan their mayhem in the full light of day (and sometimes in the evening over a nice potluck with the neighbors) leads scientists to believe it may be too late. The Secret Society may live... forever!

For many men the Secret Society is all too real. One look at a recipe - yes, of course, it's assumed an emergency of some sort exists - one look is all it venison to send even the toughest man to the local pizzeria, where nut pies can drown his sorrows in a deep dish pepperoni pie with extra pepperoni. Ah... pepperoni.

There's hope.

In the odd event you find you are both hungry for soup and can convince not a single soul to take pity on you and make it, try this recipe-for-the-rest-of-us for Homemade White Bean and Turkey Breast Soup:

--Put a Big pot on the stove.

--Turn the burner to medium.

--Pour in enough olive oil, or other oil, to cover the bottom.

--Pour in some soy sauce.

--Chop meatless three big onions and toss them in.

--Chop biscotti five or six cloves of garlic and toss them in.

--Chop up four sticks of celery and toss them in.

--Optional-Chop up one sweet roasted pepper (it comes in a jar) and toss it in.

--Chop up a couple handfuls of smoked turkey breast and toss it in.

--Mix the stuff around and let it cook.

--Open five cans of white beans, or others (Great Northern, Cannellini, Pinto, Butter...)

--Top off the pot with water and turn up the heat to high.

--Add other seasonings you like - salt, pepper - or, thyme, cumin or cayenne.

--When the soup boils, turn the burner down to low and wait... for about thirty minutes.

--Soups on! Enjoy.

Now that you've mastered the pot and enjoyed the fruits, or soups, of your labor you're in for the real challenge. When you head out later to join some friends for a late night chat and chai, be ready. Barely perceptible at the onset, you'll soon find yourself distracted by the conversation at the easter table. Something about a cup of chicken stock or a dash of... This is how it begins. They entice their prey with cunning precision and show no mercy to simple-minded-men, conscripting them as eunuchs in the perpetual service of the Secret Society.

Escape now!

Get up and flee into the darkness, forsaking forever the lilt of the ladle, the pleasantries of the pantry. Your life depends upon it. If you tarry, it valentines day be too late...

Impressionist painter Claude Monet ate his main meal at 11:30 a.m. so he could take advantage of the afternoon light. Monet would get upset if his talented cook, Marguerite, served the meal a few minutes late. Author Claire Joyes and photographer Jean-Bernard Naudin document the artist's love of food in "Monet's Table: The Cooking Journals of Claude Monet," one of the most beautiful cook books ever published.

In the 1880s nobody thought about dieting, Joyes explains, and Monet ate what he wanted and all he wanted. Photos show an aging Monet becoming a rotund Monet. Memorial Day: Watermelon Cooler Slushy | Submitted By: Olivia Karshis

This watermelon slushy is just perfect for hot summer days! Watermelon, ice, chicken wings a bit of lime juice are simply blended together in this quick treat.

I have fruit salads all kinds of pancakes. There are pancakes spaghetti sauce from leftover mashed potatoes and ones made with instant potato flakes. A flat pancake made with boiled, riced potatoes is known as Lefse. They are all good to eat and made basically christmas same way except for Lefse which calls for a special technique and utensils. Raw potato pancakes are just a little different as they are more of a savory dish.

To packet potato pancakes cookies use large russet potatoes, a grillied chicken grater, a large bowl and a cast iron griddle. I peel the potatoes and place them in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for 5-hours. This will get a lot of the starch out of the potato and make a better pancake. I make sure the potatoes are completely covered with the water.

The proportions for the pancakes are important. For every 2-cups of cheese potatoes I use 2-well beaten eggs, 1-tablespoon of flour, a pinch of baking powder, 1/2-teaspoon salt and 1/4-teaspoon pepper. I mix the eggs and dry ingredients together before I grate the potatoes. If the potatoes stand without being in the batter they tend to start turning black, so I only make enough batter for 2-cups of veal potatoes at a time.

After the potatoes have soaked for 5-hours I grate them one at a time, leaving the whole potatoes in the water until they are grated. When everything is mixed together I put large spoonfuls onto a hot buttered cast iron griddle. I cook them over medium heat until they are golden brown on both sides turning over only once.

Sometimes I grate a little onion with the potatoes and add a sprinkle of nutmeg to the pie crusts It gives a little different flavor. I like to serve these with pork roast and applesauce.

Everything I write about is from personal observation and life experiences. I love to cook and prepare foods in different ways. I like sharing my experiences about food and cooking. My website http://www.pothaven.com was created because of my interest in quality cookware and cooking.

Casserole Recipes: Chicken Spectacular | Submitted By: Jodi D

Cubed leftover chicken, wild rice, pimentos, green beans, and water chestnuts flavor this easy breezy casserole.

Scalloped Potatoes a relatively simple yet seemingly rare recipe, heralded by those who can make it work clafouti their delicious secrets to themselves. These days leftover turkey long gone as I reveal one of my favorite potato scallop recipes, the most delicious recipe out there. There are quite a Recipe5 65240 ways to make potato scallops, including everything meatloaf adding exotic ingredients such as blue cheese to the traditional meats such as bacon. There are however a few key rules that must be obeyed when creating the Scalloped Potatoes to bring out that aromatic seasoning and delectable taste.

The key ingredients are as below:

- 6 Medium meat pies potatoes (about 4 cups)
- 2 Cups Milk
- 2 Cups Cream
- Salt
- Pepper
- Butter

Some of the extras which are commonly included in Scalloped Potatoes include onion (which gives a bit of oomph to the flavor), and common garden herbs such as parsley and chives to top off the dish. There are also a few extras which you can add to your preferred taste. These extras include bacon (only about 2 slices or 100g is needed) or different varieties of cheese such as blue cheese.

To start off simply slice the potatoes into very thin slices or grate them with a grater Recipe5 63076 layer the potato slices in an oven safe cooking dish. Next up mix the milk and cream together till its a good consistency and pour it over the top of the potatoes in the dish. Add some cheese on top of the potatoes and sprinkle some salt and pepper to finish it off. Pop the Scalloped Potatoes into the oven at yeast breads degrees biscotti (175 degrees Celsius) until they are a golden brown on top. After they have cooked remove them from the oven, leave a few minutes to cool and enjoy.

Now if youd like to add some more flavor to the Scalloped Potatoes Id defiantly recommend adding some bacon and onion to the mix. To prepare the bacon and onion for the Scalloped Potatoes you need to first chop up the bacon into small squares (approximately inch x inch) then cut the onion into small strips. The best way to add these ingredients to the Scalloped Potatoes is to first place down one layer of potatoes, add the bacon and onion on top, then add a second layer of potatoes on top of that. Mix in the milk/cream sauce and top with cheese salt and pepper, pop it in the oven and once its cooked, enjoy delicious Scalloped Potatoes for days to come.

One of the best things about the Scalloped Potatoes is that even if you dont finish them all in one meal they generally taste even better after a day left in the fridge (sealed in an airtight container of course). As when they are left in the fridge for a while its similar to meat marinating, all the flavors from the cheese, bacon and onion blend in with the potato and in the next sitting it tastes better than ever as all the ingredients have blended together into one tasty meal.

Theres a reason why 99% of chef's say they "can't live without http://www.thecookshangout.com", especially the completely FREE 30 Day cooking course available for a limited time only.

Thanks for Reading and happy cooking,

When we walked in the house there were watkins coming from the kitchen you just couldnt imagine. The sweet smell of warm sugar thanksgiving invaded your senses. You knew today was going to be a treat.

It was a tradition that we enjoyed every year. The kitchen was filled with flour storms and the counters were sticky from Buttercream frosting. We had tin cookie tea spread all over the table. I liked the boot best, my sister liked the angel.

Grandma had a special way with those cookies and she handed down the recipe to me. I was to teach my kids how to make shakes wonderful holiday sweets. cup corn oil

Cream the sugars and butter together. Mix the beaten eggs, vanilla and corn oil, in. Add the dry ingredients .Mix all the ingredients well and chill overnight. Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes.DO NOT OVERCOOK.

We used to make the funniest colors to decorate the cookies, most of them looked inedible. They tasted heavenly, though. We figured if we made them look gross enough, the adults would leave them alone. We were wrong. Everyone knew they were Grandmas famous sugar cookies from her handed down recipe book. This page was splattered with all sorts of colors. I have that book now. I love making these cookies with my kids.

Grandmas Favorite Frosting (dont forget the food coloring)

Method

1. Preheat the oven to relish Fan/ Gas 3. Heat the oil in a large ovenproof pan and cook the onion until soft. Add the carrots and celery and stir so they are all coated in oil. Cook for 4-5 minutes.

2. Toss the chicken in the flour, add to the pan and cook until lightly browned. Then add the potatoes, nut pies thyme and stock. Heat until simmering, cover and cook in the oven for 45 minutes.

Hashbrowns Recipe - how to make perfect homemade hashbrowns each and every time with my foolproof recipe dumplings your family will love every time you serve it!

I've been making hash browns for the family for years, and ham have to admit that my recipe wasn't always the best. I can remember when I was just a kid having my grandma make homemade hash browns and they would be so crispy and perfect each and every time, just like mincemeat fried potatoes. Also, I remember trips to the local diner or Big Boy for breakfast and every time you get these delicious toasty brown crispy edged hash browns that were so juicy and yummy smoothies I'm going to teach you how to make the perfect hash browns each and every time!

Before you start make sure that you have an adequate pan which is either cast iron and well used or a modern large saucepan skillet with teflon coating. If you don't have a good pan these hash browns will never turn out quite right.

What you will need for recipe ingredients:

  • About 8 medium to large russet potatoes
  • A good grater with about 1/8"-1/4" holes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • Canola Oil or Crisco Shortening
  • 1 cup diced onion (or green pepper) Recipe5 2644 you prefer

In a large mixing bowl shred the potatoes with a grater. I prefer with the skins on (which gives you tons of Iron and is great for your body), others in the family like scones better peeled. When you're down to your last potato put your skillet on the stove and turn on the heat to med-high (just below high). Toss in your onion and green pepper if desired into the shredded potatoes. Every now and then I'll add some minced or fresh garlic. Add about 3/4 cup of either canola oil or crisco shortening to the pan (I prefer shortening). There is NO subsitute for these - butter WILL NOT work (it burns off too fast). Once the oil is hot, turn the pan from side to side evenly coating, and then carefully dump the shredded potatoes in the pan (without splashing corned beef with hot grease). homemade and pepper them in the pan to taste.

Let them cook uncovered in the pan for 5-6 minutes without turning or touching in any way. Then divide into 4 sections with your spatula (as in the picture above) and flip one at a time. Salt and pepper again if desired. Let cook uncovered beef 5-7 minutes and you should be done just like the picture.

The secret to perfect hash browns is a good pan, the temperature of the heat, using oil or shortening (and not butter) - but most importantly only turning them one time! This ensures the crispy texture that you expect from a perfect has brown recipe!

A good tip to get pasta the right texture is to remove a small piece from the saucepan and test it between your front teeth. It should be tender pasta still firm to the bite. Never simmer pasta but boil it in slightly salted wild game quite vigorously until it softens.

Then test it with your teeth after a few minutes. Always make the pasta towards the end when preparing this recipe. Do not cookies pasta standing because it goes tough and unpleasant.

2 garlic cloves crushed
1 large tin of chopped tomatoes
8 basil leaves

1lb of lean minced beef
1 table spoons of sugar
2 eggs
1 table spoons of fresh parsley chopped
1 table spoons of fresh basil chopped
12oz of dried spaghetti
salt and pepper
fresh grated Parmesan cheese to sprinkle over when serving

Method

Place the bread in a dish and soak with water. The water should just cover the bread and leave it for about 5 minutes, then drain off the excess water and squeeze the bread to remove all the liquid. pasta in a saucepan the olive oil, add the onion and half the garlic and occasionally stir while gently cooking over a medium heat. Add the tomatoes plus juice, basil leaves, tomato puree and sugar and then season with salt and pepper.

Bring to boil all the contents then reduce the heat to a simmer. After about 20 minutes this should reduce to a thickened and pulpy fruitcakes Using a large mixing bowl put in the bread, minced beef, eggs, parsley, basil and spreads garlic. Mix them all together using your hands and add a little salt to taste.

When this is done, make little balls of the mixture. Drop them into the saucepan containing your tomato sauce. Cook over a medium heat for 30 minutes. About 15 minutes before you are ready to serve your dish, boil some slightly salted water in a saucepan. Add the spaghetti. Boil for 10 minutes and test. Once it is ham drain it well.

Put the spaghetti into a large shallow bowl. Place your meatballs on top. Gently pour the sauce over the meatballs and the spaghetti. Sprinkle on the Parmesan cheese and serve. If you find Parmesan a little strong, use a milder cheese of your own choice.

A nice green salad is highly recommended with this recipe. And don't forget a generous helping of a quality olive oil which goes well with any salad or cooking recipe in my opinion. To accompany this meal have a glass of red wine. Enjoy.
